Latest Google Update Meant To Improve Domain Diversity

Google e1347689633341 Latest Google Update Meant To Improve Domain Diversity

It looks like the latest algorithm update coming from Google’s search engine was meant to diversify the different domains shown on the first page of results.

There were a few complaints about the same domain being shown on the entire first page for some results so this update was rolled out throughout that strange week of traffic starting around August 28th.

Here’s an example shown by SearchEngineLand here:

But for some reason the update hasn’t had the wanted effect because it still shows the same results here.

Matt Cutts also tweeted about the update:

Just fyi, we rolled out a small algo change this week that improves the diversity of search results in terms of different domains returned.

We’ll see if this is still an ongoing update and if it will actually fix the problem they want to get rid of. I still have some sites bouncing back and forth doing the usual Google dance, but I am seeing some improvements with multiple domains being on the front page. I’ll keep you updated once I hear more on this.

4 Tips for New Affiliate Marketers

Affiliate marketing is steadily growing due to the seemingly small amount of work you have to put into it. I want to share with you some tips to use when choosing a product to promote.

#1 Promote UNIQUE Products

You have to find and promote a product that really stands out from the normal ones out there. Promoting a product that hundreds upon thousands of people are already promoting make it much harder on you because of the competition. Sure, you might have a harder time finding that one unique product, but the research is well worth it. If you struggle to find something that is extremely unique, try to gauge it based on the selling page. Videos and attractive, but complete and concise, content will be great in getting someone to purchase it. With experience you will learn what works and what doesn’t when selecting a product to become an affiliate for.

#2 Useful and Effective Affiliate Tools

A good merchant will always provide their affiliates with tools to help them promote the product themselves. Whether it is squeeze pages, swipe email templates, articles, etc. You must make sure to look for those very useful tools. If there are none available, make sure you KNOW you can promote the product well enough to your skill. Beginners may need these tools that the producer creates, but if you think you can go without them then try it out!

#3 Communicate With The Creator

Try to get in contact with the product creator to establish a little relationship with him. See if the creator responds well to your messages so you can see if the customers who buy the product you are promoting would be satisfied as well. Creaetor who aren’t very helpful with their own product could lead to customers returning what they bought and possibly losing their trust in you. You don’t want an unhappy customer, let alone a commission lost.

#4 Tracking

You must track how your customers are reaching your sales page, what they click to go to the merchant’s sale page, and which of all these strategies work best. This is especially important if you are investing in some kind of PPC strategy promoting a product. Track what keywords create the most clicks, how much you’re spending on that click, and whether or not it actually converts. A lot of affiliate programs offer tracking IDs so you can keep track of these things so be sure you take advantage of that! If one thing doesn’t work, move on to the next.

Conclusion

Affiliate marketing isn’t as easy as a set and forget type of business (nothing really is) so you do have to put some work in and try different traffic driving strategies. That’s why tracking is such an important factor. You can’t just implement 5 different strategies for promoting and not know which one is working best! You could be wasting time and money! Try only one or two at a time and see if those work well or not. If they don’t, simply drop them and replace with a different plan you had in mind.

Top 3 Affiliate Marketing Mistakes – Avoid Them Today

In today’s current economic situation, people are always looking for new streams of income, so there it is no surprise that the amount of affiliate marketers on the internet has increased. More and more people are getting in on this hot new industry and finding great success with it.

Just like with any business, affiliate marketing has its “Pitfalls” as well as difficulties that the business or website owner should be aware of. If the owner is aware of these mistakes or problems before they get into the business, chances are that when they are faced with them, they will be able to handle them with success instead of failure.

Mistake #1 – Choosing the Wrong Affiliate Program

Most people jump into affiliate marketing without doing too much research, they are excited to get in the business and fail to do their homework. Many people will take a look around and see what the “Hottest Affiliate” programs are and immediately join that program because they think they may be able to make a quick buck.

When you are choosing an affiliate program to be a part of, try choosing one in something that you are actually interested in doing, because the key to being successful with affiliate marketing is staying up to date and keeping readers up to date, and nothing sucks worse than going to a job just because it pays the bill, that is the whole reason you got into affiliate marketing in the first place.

Mistake #2 – Check the Saturation or Demand for your Affiliate Product

Main thing that you need to be aware of is don’t “Spread yourself Thin”. There are a lot of affiliate programs out there, so people are sometimes tempted to join them all or join multiple ones, simply because they think that “The More Programs I Join, the More Sources of Income”.

Well that may be true, but I personally would rather have $500 coming in from one or two income streams, than $5 coming in from 10 income streams. Just because there are more options doesn’t mean you should join them all. What happens is this, people join multiple programs and then they don’t have the time that is required to put into them so they spread it around, and then none of them end up becoming profitable because there was no time put into it.

In order to be successful at Affiliate Marketing treat it like a business or anything else for that matter. Always remember, crawl before you walk, do it slowly, create one revenue stream, and then once it is making a good amount of revenue, go ahead and repeat your success with another one, and then slowly build it up, one at a time.

Mistake #3 – No Knowledge about the Product Your Marketing

Don’t you hate it when someone comes up to you and tries to sell you a product and you ask them, “How do you like the product, what did it do for you?” – Then they immediately answer, “Oh, I have never even tried it, just heard a lot of good things about it”. Come on, if you are going to try to market and sale a product or service, at least try it one time. Product knowledge is everything when it comes to selling and marketing, so if you don’t use the product or service you are not going to be able to effectively market the product at all.

On the same note, if you use the product before marketing it, you may be able to show “Before and After” case studies as well as more testimonials of how the product works, why it works, etc. One of the biggest selling points in any business rather it be a brick and mortar store or an online business is reviews and testimonials. People want to see others results and what others think about the product before they invest their money into it.

Now, we understand that affiliate marketing can be a very profitable stream of revenue if done right, however, just make sure that you avoid the above three mistakes and you should be able to make a nice profitable income stream just from sitting at home.

Slow and steady always wins the race, just remember the tortes and the hare, don’t be in a hurry to try to put up a bunch of affiliate sites, work on one, perfect the technique and then move on.

What is a Backlink?

Link1 What is a Backlink? Welcome to the first guide in our “How To Get Backlinks” series! I know a lot of you are saying, “Dude, we already know what a backlink is!” but I wanted to make sure this guide was as complete as I could make it. Even for beginners. So with that being said let’s get started! A backlink is simply when another website links to yours. These links are also called inbound links. Google takes into consideration how many backlinks you have, but also the quality of those backlinks.

What Determines the Quality of a Backlink?

The quality of a backlink is determined by these factors:

  1. Relevancy – Is the website related to your content? If you run a website about health, a backlink from a blog about cars is not a quality backlink.
  2. PageRank (PR) – This is a 0-10 rating system determined by Google using their own algorithm. The higher a website’s PR, the better.
  3. TrustRank – Similar to PageRank, this is another algorithm used to calculate whether a website is considered spam or not.
  4. Authority  - Another factor in figuring out how trustworthy a website is.
  5. Age – How long a website has been up and running.
  6. Content – When a website sends a backlink, it is better that the link is surrounded by related content.
  7. Anchor Text – This is the text used to link to your site or the clickable word that would lead to your website.
  8. Page position – Higher up on the page, the better.
  9. dofollow link – dofollow lets spiders crawl the link, while nofollow is the opposite.
  10. IP Diversity – Various sites may have the same or similar IPs which have a slight factor in how effective they each are for your SEO.

Phew, didn’t think the list was going to be that long. Another factor to consider is when you can get access to a backlink from a .EDU or .GOV website as those have a lot more authority than the usual .com, .net, or .org. Now that you know what makes a quality backlink, you need to know the different types of backlinks you can have.

Backlink Diversity

While a lot of backlinks can be nice, you need there to be diversity in your website’s backlink profile. It’s great that a single website just gave you 50 backlinks, but it would be even better if 50 websites each gave you 1 backlink. Another factor to consider is the type of backlinks you get. Here is a short list of different types of backlinks which I will be diving deeper into (in no particular order):

  1. Article Links
  2. Blog Comments
  3. Web 2.0
  4. Forum Links/Signatures
  5. Social Bookmarking
  6. Press Release
  7. RSS Feed Submissions
  8. Guest Blogging
  9. .EDU and .GOV Links
  10. Videos
  11. Documents

You’ll have a lot of options to diversify your backlink portfolio, but of course, some of these are a lot harder than others, but may come with better results for your website SEO. We will also be getting into each of these types of backlinks and how to get them more in-depth as this guide progresses.
