Top 3 Affiliate Marketing Mistakes – Avoid Them Today

In today’s current economic situation, people are always looking for new streams of income, so there it is no surprise that the amount of affiliate marketers on the internet has increased. More and more people are getting in on this hot new industry and finding great success with it.

Just like with any business, affiliate marketing has its “Pitfalls” as well as difficulties that the business or website owner should be aware of. If the owner is aware of these mistakes or problems before they get into the business, chances are that when they are faced with them, they will be able to handle them with success instead of failure.

Mistake #1 – Choosing the Wrong Affiliate Program

Most people jump into affiliate marketing without doing too much research, they are excited to get in the business and fail to do their homework. Many people will take a look around and see what the “Hottest Affiliate” programs are and immediately join that program because they think they may be able to make a quick buck.

When you are choosing an affiliate program to be a part of, try choosing one in something that you are actually interested in doing, because the key to being successful with affiliate marketing is staying up to date and keeping readers up to date, and nothing sucks worse than going to a job just because it pays the bill, that is the whole reason you got into affiliate marketing in the first place.

Mistake #2 – Check the Saturation or Demand for your Affiliate Product

Main thing that you need to be aware of is don’t “Spread yourself Thin”. There are a lot of affiliate programs out there, so people are sometimes tempted to join them all or join multiple ones, simply because they think that “The More Programs I Join, the More Sources of Income”.

Well that may be true, but I personally would rather have $500 coming in from one or two income streams, than $5 coming in from 10 income streams. Just because there are more options doesn’t mean you should join them all. What happens is this, people join multiple programs and then they don’t have the time that is required to put into them so they spread it around, and then none of them end up becoming profitable because there was no time put into it.

In order to be successful at Affiliate Marketing treat it like a business or anything else for that matter. Always remember, crawl before you walk, do it slowly, create one revenue stream, and then once it is making a good amount of revenue, go ahead and repeat your success with another one, and then slowly build it up, one at a time.

Mistake #3 – No Knowledge about the Product Your Marketing

Don’t you hate it when someone comes up to you and tries to sell you a product and you ask them, “How do you like the product, what did it do for you?” – Then they immediately answer, “Oh, I have never even tried it, just heard a lot of good things about it”. Come on, if you are going to try to market and sale a product or service, at least try it one time. Product knowledge is everything when it comes to selling and marketing, so if you don’t use the product or service you are not going to be able to effectively market the product at all.

On the same note, if you use the product before marketing it, you may be able to show “Before and After” case studies as well as more testimonials of how the product works, why it works, etc. One of the biggest selling points in any business rather it be a brick and mortar store or an online business is reviews and testimonials. People want to see others results and what others think about the product before they invest their money into it.

Now, we understand that affiliate marketing can be a very profitable stream of revenue if done right, however, just make sure that you avoid the above three mistakes and you should be able to make a nice profitable income stream just from sitting at home.

Slow and steady always wins the race, just remember the tortes and the hare, don’t be in a hurry to try to put up a bunch of affiliate sites, work on one, perfect the technique and then move on.
